| Many times
when people think about United Way, they think of a fund raising
campaign. But as you browse through this web site, you will
find that United Way finds solutions to community problems and improves peoples lives. Fund raising is a tool to accomplish this.
The United Way of
Greater Lima is a local community organization that funds
27 partner agencies in Lima/Allen County. The partner agencies
provide services that help people in many special ways. All
decisions about our United Way are made by local volunteers
who know the needs of our community and fund services to meet
those needs. That's where United Way dollars turn into caring
for people.
Who runs United Way?
- thousands of volunteers-local people from
all walks of life who serve without pay to raise and distribute
United Way funds
- volunteers serve on the Board of Directors
setting all policies for the United Way of Greater Lima,
Inc.
- volunteers serve on the Allocations Committee
directing funds to programs and services where they are
most needed in Allen County
Why is there a United Way?
- cuts fund raising costs of partner agencies
- allows human service agencies to concentrate
on providing services
- combines many campaigns into one community-wide
campaign
- brings together organizations to address
community problems
- reduces overlapping services
- identifies changing community needs
- supports high priority needs and the most
effective human services
- permits the convenience of giving through
payroll deduction
- provides help for people who would not
otherwise be able to receive it
